What inspired you to open Mara Hair & Mode Studio in Fairfax City?

The location! I loved this city for its charming historic character. It has a great sense of community and there are small businesses that makes this city unique. When I found my building, built in 1907, I was sold that I can add to this city with the vision that I had for Mara Hair and Mode Studio. And I was 100% right. 🙂

What do you enjoy most about having a business in Fairfax City?

I love my studio’s location. I love telling my clients the history of Old Town Courthouse. I love all the other small businesses around my studio. I love events that the City offers to its community. I love being close to GMU and provide jobs to students. I love how walkable the city is because many of our clients travel here and we can recommend them to walk to other businesses. I love how supportive the City is of its small businesses.

How has Mara Hair & Mode Studio changed since its opening?

In 2015, I opened my studio with one stylist, me. Today, there are 9 stylists and 1 makeup artist. In 2017, we took over the entire building and added the boutique. Currently, there are 18 team members.

What do clients and/or customers say they love about Mara Hair & Mode Studio?

They love our design, ambiance, and unique experience. They love that they can get hair services and some shopping done in one place. We get a lot of compliments on our social media appearance and expert tips. Clients also compliment on how much it shows that my team loves working here.

What are some of your fondest memories or biggest successes since you’ve opened?

Everyday is a very special day at Mara. My biggest success is building my team who are passionate and dedicated to their craft. My team’s talents are what makes the business successful. I love mentoring my team and gaining their trust in my leadership. I am also very proud of seeing the concept of salon and boutique coming together.

What’s next for you and Mara Hair & Mode Studio?

Continue to grow and share our expertise to as many people in our community as possible. I would love to get involved in leadership programs to empower people, to help them understand their calling in life, and teach them to see opportunities.

Are their any fun facts you would like residents and visitors to know?

We are an education-focus salon. We use Bumble and Bumble products to represent our work. We are the 1st boutique+ hair salon in the DMV area. We are a diverse group of passionate people who care to serve clients. We stay creative everyday on our social media by providing styling and beauty tips to our followers. Our boutique seeks beautiful items from small brands with sustainability and diversity in mind.

When you’re not working, where in Fairfax City do you like to spend your time?

I love visiting other small businesses in Fairfax City. I enjoy all the restaurants in the city. My kids love Smashed Ice Cream and Woody’s. My family loves having picnics in all the outdoor parks. We cannot wait to have Rock the Block, 4th of July Parade, and other festivals back.
