Grand Opening of Wander In: Old Town Fairfax’s Newest Shopping Destination

Embark on a Retail Journey Filled with Unique Gifts and Treasures

FAIRFAX CITY, VA, DEC. 27, 2023– The Old Town Fairfax Business Association (OTFBA) and Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) are thrilled to unveil the grand opening of Wander In, an innovative retail incubator store set to open its doors on December 30th at 10 AM at 3950 University Drive, Suite 211, in the heart of Old Town Fairfax. In a collaborative partnership with Kimco Realty and Mason Small Business Development Center, this venture seeks to provide a dynamic retail incubation platform for local markers and entrepreneurs, elevating Old Town Fairfax as a premier destination for small businesses and entrepreneurship in Northern Virginia and a place for locals to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts and keepsakes.

“Wander In offers a retail boutique showcasing over 30 of our area’s many talented artisans,” stated Mayor Catherine S. Read. “Located next to a free parking garage, on the plaza next to great Fairfax City restaurants, this will offer residents and visitors a fun browsing experience. This is a great resource for those unique items we all look for at festivals and fairs, only now we can find them all year round.”

Wander In is proud to host a diverse range of small businesses, contributing to the unique offerings in the store. While the shop will showcase over 30 wide-ranging businesses, here is a short list of what shoppers can find in-store:

  • Paris Love Jewelry offers a diverse selection of handcrafted and designed jewelry encompassing a blend of eclectic vintage and modern styles.
  • White Dove Candle LLC presents a curated selection of premium candles, artistically designed to infuse your space with serenity and sophistication.
  • Mary Bockenek Art features thumbnail-sized landscapes, mini abstracts, and three-dimensional heart art, all crafted with joy to add a vibrant pop of color wherever they find a home.
  • Toute-Petite, translating to ‘attention to detail’ in French, embodies a commitment to meticulously crafted artwork, ensuring each piece is thoughtful. The brand offers a collection of greeting cards and small gifts appropriate for any occasion.

“Not only do we anticipate it evolving into a central hub for unique, locally crafted gifts and keepsakes, but with Wander In, our goal is to enhance the shopping experience through exciting special events and collaborative business initiatives,” said Tess Rollins, Executive Director of Old Town Fairfax Business Association. “This resonates with both our cherished residents and valued visitors.”

During the Grand Opening, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and limited giveaways. The retail store will be open regularly from Tuesday through Sunday. In addition to shopping, Wander In will host special workshops, classes, and events. Customers can soon participate in maker art classes and have the opportunity to meet the artists or authors of items sold in-store during these events.

“Wander In is more than a retail space; it’s a pioneering collaboration that echoes our vision for Fairfax City,” said Christopher Bruno, director and CEO of Fairfax City Economic Development. “With its innovative offerings, we anticipate not just a hub for unique, locally crafted gifts, but a redefined shopping experience that speaks to our community values. Wander In represents a significant stride in reshaping the entrepreneurial and community engagement landscape of Northern Virginia.”
