Grant Provides Over $27,000 to Support Local Women-Owned Businesses

FAIRFAX CITY, VA, OCT. 7, 2024 – Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) announces the recipients of the inaugural Women’s Entrepreneur Grant Opportunity (WEGO), which was created to support and enhance women-owned businesses in Fairfax City. The WEGO program allocated a total of $27,859.00 to six local women-owned businesses to provide consulting and capacity-building services. The recipients were officially announced during the Women’s Entrepreneur Empowerment Luncheon on September 25.

The WEGO program connects women-owned businesses with local industry experts, providing them with essential tools and support to enhance their business capabilities. Each recipient will receive consulting services aimed at strengthening their competitive edge and promoting long-term success.

The recipients of the WEGO grants are:

The WEGO program, which originally planned to allocate $25,000 to five businesses, ultimately awarded $27,859.00 to six recipients. Surplus funds from the luncheon budget—due in part to sold-out tickets for the event—allowed FCED the opportunity to allocate additional funding to support one more business, furthering its commitment to empowering women-owned businesses in the city.

“We are excited to recognize the grant recipients for this inaugural program dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs in Fairfax City. We received dozens of submissions and are grateful for the outpouring of interest. It's inspiring to see the passion in the community, and we’re proud to play a role in helping these entrepreneurs take their businesses to the next level.”
