First-Ever “Fairfax City Shop Local Week” Will Highlight and Support Locally-owned Retailers

The first ever Fairfax City Shop Local Week, taking place from July 25 to July 31, 2024, will highlight locally-owned retail shops and establish Fairfax City as a regional destination for unique finds. This new initiative is sponsored by Fairfax City Economic Development in partnership with the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, The Old Town Fairfax Business Association and local retail leaders.

Participating shops will welcome customers to experience, discover, and enjoy their offerings with a variety of themed celebrations. Each day is designed to provide both retailers and consumers with valuable opportunities. Community Cares Thursday will see retailers partnering with local charities to give back to the community. Friday Social and Sidewalk Sales on Saturday and Sunday promise a lively shopping atmosphere with sip-and-shop events and exciting sidewalk sales. Discovery Day Monday invites customers to meet the makers, enjoy trunk shows, and experience pop-ups in different stores. Treat Yourself Tuesday focuses on pampering customers with products and services designed to boost happiness and well-being. Wellness Wednesday will highlight “Good for You” offerings, encouraging healthy practices and products.

“Fairfax City Shop Local Week takes advantage of summer leisure time with family and friends to discover our local gems,” said Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read. “Our locally owned businesses are focused on building relationships in the community and welcoming visitors to experience what makes our city unique.”

“Fairfax City Shop Local Week is an excellent opportunity for the community to support our local businesses while also experiencing unique and limited offers on the products and services the retailers have to offer."
